West Coast Industries, an innovative aerospace tool manufacturing company, has been developing solutions for making tools last longer for over 40 years. One of these solutions is a portable precision boring machine used to create holes in highly stressed aircraft structures, making this manufacturing task more efficient. The portable tool used by West Coast Industries has a 2.5 hp air motor and all air is routed through the metal handle. The metal handle became a problem for the operators hands due to temperature. In addition, these tools are frequently dropped and due to the material and shape of the handle, replacement became very expensive. Each time a handle breaks, there is significant downtime and delays in throughput because it can take several hours or days to procure a replacement.
