When Somfy launched the Additive Manufacturing department inside its R&D center, the idea was to open the mind to new possibilities. In the beginning, Somfy was using 3rd party suppliers to get their prototypes. Then the first FFF 3D printers paved the way to the company’s HQ, while service providers still took orders for more demanding parts. After FFF 3D technology, SLA join Somfy’s R&D Center, and with this, the evolution towards SLS (selective laser sintering) technology was only a matter of time.

SAE Aero Design is a series of competitive aerospace and mechanical engineering events held in the US since 1986. The purpose of the SAE Aero Design competition is to design and build an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of lifting the heaviest possible payload. The Polish team from the Warsaw University of Technology has been participating in these competitions for 31 years as one of the favorites. The team of 20 students worked for six months to develop six models: four in a micro category and two in a regular one.
